They are: * SprNotes.txt document you're now reading. 'Nuff said. * SprNotes.pkg software package you'll install on your Newton. * SAStuff.txt A list of all Stand Alone products.* Installing Super NotePad---------------------------------------------------------------------First off, you must get the Super NotePad software package onto your Newton. You can do this using the Newton Connection Utility (for Mac or Windows), the Newton Package Downloader, or the Newton Backup Utility. See the documentaion with each of these for more information on installing packages with them.* Using Super NotePad--------------------------------------------------------------------- Super NotePad is a collection of enhancements to the built in NotePad application on your Newton. These are summarized below:¥ÊNavigation bar At the top of the NotePad is a bar with several buttons (if you don't see the bar, tap the right facing triangle in the upper left corner of the screen. There are several buttons and a picker in this bar. The buttons, from left to right are: * First Note (up arrow iwith a bar) Tapping this takes you to the first note in the folder * Last Note (down arrow iwith a bar) Tapping this takes you to the last note in the folder * Previous Note (solid up arrow) Tapping this takes you to the previous note. * Scroll up (hollow up arrow) Tapping this scrolls the screen up by half a screen. * Scroll down (hollow down arrow) Tapping this scrolls the screen down by half a screen. * Next Note (solid down arrow) Tapping this takes you to the next note. If you're at the last note, this will take you to the end of the note.In the middle of the bar is a picker indicating the number of notes in the current folder. Tapping it pops up a list of all the notes in the folder, and selecting one will scroll to that note. To the right of this is a button labeled "All". Tapping this will popup a list of all notes that have a title assigned to them, in any folder. To the right of the "All" button is the "Recent" button. Tapping on this pops up a list of the last 10 notes you've edited. You can select one of these to jump directly to it. Next to the First and Last note buttons, at the left of the window, is the Styles button, to bring up the styles palette. To hide or show the navigation bar, tap the small triangle icon in the upper left corner of the screen.¥ÊTags button On each note, to the left of the filing button, a new button has been added, to allow you to tag notes. Tags are additional identifiers, and a note can have any number of tags. Tags can be thought of as similar to folders, except that where an item can only be filed in one folder at a time, it can be tagged with multiple tags. To tag an item, tap the tags button and check or uncheck those tags you want to use. To edit tags, tap the "Edit Tags" item. This will bring up a list of all your current tags. To remove or edit one, tap it, and either change it to the desired value, or scrub it out to remove it.¥ÊEncrypting Notes Notes can be encrypted with a low level encryption scheme to make them harder for unwanted people to access. This is NOT a complex encryption scheme, but does make it very difficult to get at the note. Encrypted notes are displayed with a different layout, with a password entry line and "Decrypt" button. To encrypt a note, tap the Action button and select "Encrypt Note".¥ÊSelect All This is a commonly requested feature. It will select an entire paragraph of text, based on the current location of the caret. It is accessed via the Action button.¥ÊProtektion You can password protect any NotePad folder (except for All Notes and Unfiled Notes). When you try to switch to a password protected folder, Super NotePad will first ask for the password. If you enter the correct password, Super NotePad will let you into the new folder, if not, you can't get in. You can password protect a folder by tapping on the folder tab at the top of the screen and tap "Protekt".¥ÊCustom Filters You can set up custom filters, so that you can view multiple folders and tags at once, or exclude tags. To set up a custom folder, tap the folder tab, and tap "Custom Filters". A window will open with a picker at the top listing all of your custom filters. Below the name will be a list of at least one, and possibly more, choices for the the filter. By tapping on the first and second pickers on each line, you can set up a phrase such as "View only notes that are tagged with Important". To add more qualifiers, tap the "More Choices" button, and to reduce the number, (only if there is more than one filter.) You can also tap the "Rename" button to rename the filter. Once you've created your custom filters, you can select them from the filter bar menu, and they will be made the current filter. You can password protect custom filters just as normal filters. If you are in a note that you would like to use as a 'template' for a filter (ie, find all other notes in the same folder and with the same tags), you can tap on "Instant Filter" from the action button, and a new filter will be created.¥ Default Note Types You can select the default note type for a folder usng the Prefs. For example, you may have a folder called "Phone Messages", and the only thing to be kept in there are Message Slips (from the Stand Alone Stationery Pack.) Go into your Prefs, select "Phone Messages" from the "The Default note for" picker, and then "Message Slip" from the picker.* Registering Super NotePad---------------------------------------------------------------------You have a 30 day trial period in which to examine Super NotePad, during which it will function fully.
