TimeLock 1.2 ------------ About ----- TimeLock allows you to set a delay on requiring the entry of your password. I took on this project because I wasn't using the builtin password feature because it was to cumbersome. I would turn off my newton just to remember one more thing and need to turn it back on again and enter my password. With TimeLock I can set a delay so if I need to turn my newton right back on again I can without having to re-enter my password. Installation ------------ Because it doesn't make sense to install TimeLock onto the card you should install it into an internal store (memory). If you install it on the card you will get "Newton still needs the card you removed..." message, but if you insert the card back in and then eject the card after the message goes away you will be able to eject the card without the grip of death. Use --- TimeLock is installed into the password slip in the prefs. To get to the password slip open tap prefs, tap personal, tap set password. To set the delay just choose one of the predefined time settings. If the next time you turn on your Newton is before the last time you turned it off plus your delayed time setting then you will not need to enter the password again. Otherwise the Newton will flash on and off and you will need to turn it on again and enter your password. Cost ---- Shareware $5.00 Compuserve members can register online (GO: SWREG) for $10.00. $10.00 what!! Well, $10 is the minimum amount that the new SWREG setup will allow me to enter. I even tried asking the SWREG people and they told be that they can't override the minimum $10.00 Look for ID # 3460. To who ------ Hardy Macia P.O. You are now immortalized in the Newton world. User Comments ------------- "I hope the Newton community likes it as much as I do. I was using both the "Sleep Aid" and "Password" programs to try to get Newton to work somewhat the way I wanted it to work and TimeLock has replaced them both. It works great." - Stefan Powell Version History --------------- 1.2 - 9/14/94 - bug fix * the problem with the password not being on when it should be has been fixed * added the stats... option for my debugging purposes mostly * I now assume that this will be installed internally and don't worry about the grip of death error. By doing this I only use 1k of heap versus 4-5k. 1.1 - 9/14/94 - cis update * I added SWREG information for cis users. * fixed small display bug - if you tapped shareware or thanks in the popup they would become checked instead of keeping the time checked. 1.0 - 9/13/94- released version 1.0b4 -9/12/94- accidently released to uiowa. This didn't work.
