DeepNewt(tm) 1.0b5DeepNewt(tm) is TOTALLY FREE (for the moment). Enjoy it. (I do.) Release notesDeepNewt is a chess implementation for the Newton. It is NOS 2.x only; I have no plans to make it 1.x happy. Currently, DeepNewt is only capable of "moderating" a game of chess. Plug-in brain support is there, but not final yet. I will probably not have any brains available for some time to come. The brain interface will be freely available; I encourage other people to write plug-in brains. I'm sure that mine won't be the best around.Bug reports should be sent to . Updates should be available from http://binky.seas.upenn.edu/~jorj/newton.shtml.DeepNewt is beta-quality software. This means that I'm not done working on it, and am releasing it to the public for testing, improvement ideas, missed features and the likes. If you think thatDeepNewt should have something that it doesn't, it's probably because I haven't gotten that far yet. Check out my web page for information about the current status of DeepNewt, as well as the latest version. Who knows? Maybe it's out of beta by now.AddendumIt bothers me that so much crappy software costs money nowadays. If you really like this game, tell me so! If you feel that it's really really extra great, send me a token of your appreciation (I love teas from around the world, for example...)It is very likely that I will make DeepNewt shareware for brain plug-in support (or perhaps for brains other than the standard one I provide; I'm not sure yet). I've been working on this project since February 1996, and intend to see it through to completion. However, I'm dedicated to making this a good product before trying to push people into paying for it. I wish other shareware authors would do the Newton community the same courtesy.
